I saw my first lampwork at a crafts show. It was Tina Julich’s booth. I asked her why her glass looked ‘different’ from other jewelry vendors. She explained what lampwork was and my interest was piqued. Since then, I have taken several lessons from her and Susan Chambers. I was hooked. I couldn’t wait to go try this on my own. My husband got me my first torch (Fireworks) for Christmas of 2004. It didn’t take me long to realize that I wanted to upgrade. In 2006, I was able to get a bigger, dual fuel torch and set up a good working studio. I enjoy meeting other lampworkers, talking glass, and seeing show & tells. I have been an avid reader of lampwork books, online tutorials, and glass forums. I am a member of Lampwork Etc. Now, I love to torch! If I didn’t have to work to support my habit, I would be torching all of the time. I have been fortunate to sell some of my beads through word-of-mouth. And then, when I get really good, maybe that could support my habit! I also enjoy the challenge of taking the beads and making jewelry out of what I did. It’s fun. Thanks goes out to all those who have inspired me. Cheryl |
